Science Project.

Here's a sneak peak at the science project Cici has been working on the past week or so. She put six small food items (M&Ms, Goldfish crackers, etc.) in jars of water and recorded the changes day to day to see if things would turn out the way she expected. Here's an example of one of her data sheets, together with her hypothesis and conclusions:

Goldfish

Sunday - floated and broke, 2 hours later they sank
Monday - no change
Tuesday - the water got foggy
Wednesday - no change
Thursday - it melted in to mush
Friday - it got mushyer
Saturday - the smell smelled like barf

Hypothesis: I thoght that theyed melt in 3 days
Conclusions: I was right for 3 but wrong for 3 and some melted right away. the coler changed and the smell, these changes I did not expect

Leo The Lion.

Hi, everyone - sorry posts have been infrequent these days. A long bout of illness for both kids kept us occupied for a few weeks after the holidays and we didn't have much good news to report.

But we do now: all the first-grade classes at Cici's school are collaborating on a play, called "It's a Jungle Out There." Auditions were last week, and last night Cici came home very excited about having gotten a part. Not just any part, but the lead role itself: Leo the Lion.

We can't wait to see it. The performance will be April 16th, for anyone who'd like to go.

More Rube-Speak.

Dadam: Have a good day, Ruby.

Ruby: I will too!

Rube-Speak.

[Ruby has just discovered that one of her friends at daycare has the same birthday.]

Ruby: Dad!

Dadam: What?

Ruby: Guess what!

Dadam: What, Ruby?

Ruby: Elly and I were born on exactly the same AGE!

Independent Women

Last night I had the girls with me at a meeting, and about halfway through I started to come down with a migraine. By the time I had the girls packed up in the van and on the way home, the migraine had gotten significantly worse and I was in agony. I calmly told the girls that when we got home I would need them to put themselves to bed because I wasn't feeling well and needed to lie down (and, as it turns out, vomit). They quickly agreed but I assumed - based on past experience - that this was a long-shot at best.

The rest of the night is a blur, as I spent the rest of it on the floor and whimpering in the dark. Dadam was out at a meeting of his own until 10:30, so he came home to a quiet house with three sleeping girls.

This morning when I woke up the migraine was gone and I went in to thank the girls for their cooperation last night. It was only then that I found out Cecilia had helped Ruby go potty and brush her teeth, as well as help Ruby put on proper pajamas. Then she did the same for herself, and turned on the closet light that we keep on as a nightlight before crawling into bed herself.

She is SUCH a good kid.

Morning Meeting.

So, yesterday morning when I was driving Cici to school we were turning onto the frontage road in front of the school and Cici is all sad face and she says, "We're already here and we didn't even have time to talk to each other." And she's almost crying, so I say -- What did you want to talk about? And she says, "I don't know. I just wanted to talk." And I said, "Did you want to tell me how I'm the awesomest mom in the whole world?" And she starts to smile and says, "Maybe."

Have you ever heard of a better conversation in your life?

War Paint.

Thank god they were dry-erase markers, not Sharpies.

Goodbye, Old Year (And R.I.P., Shellfish).

As Momlissa promised, here are some pictures from our second annual lobster night. (We added creme brulee this year too.) A fun time was had by all, and most importantly a hangover was not had by Dadam the next day (unlike last year).

Come Again?

Ruby [pointing to something on her cheek]: Know what this is?

Dadam [who can't see anything there]: What?

Ruby: It's my screw.

Dadam: Your what?

Ruby [walking away]: Yeah. I don't know where I got it.
