Eight is Enough!

Today is Cecilia's 8th birthday. If someone could explain how this happened - how our beautiful baby girl turned into this rambunctious, tan, lanky (still beautiful) child of 8 - I would appreciate it.

Tri Again

Last weekend we were in Door County for some quality time with Grandma and Grandpa K. We went cherry-picking, played miniature golf, and the girls both participated in the kid triathlon at the YMCA. As usual, we managed to squeeze in a lot of activity in a short amount of time, but it was (as usual) lots of fun!

She's So Right.

Last night I was teasing Cecilia about something, and it was clear that I thought it was much funnier than she did. So I reminded her how funny I was, and that there probably weren't any other moms as funny as me. She rolled her eyes and then told me there certainly were other people funnier than me - Grandma One for starters.

Me: What?! You think my mom is funnier than ME?

Cecilia: Yeah. She screws up on a bunch of things.

Bang Bang

Cecilia has been wanting bangs for some time now, and earlier this week I finally caved and made an appointment. I feel like she's getting to an age where she can start making some decisions about her appearance (with major veto power by Mom and Dad), and in the grand scheme of things bangs don't seem like a very big deal. I don't know why she got so set on this idea, but the final product is pretty darn adorable if you ask me:

She is over the moon about her new look, racing down the block to show neighbors and combing them non-stop. This morning she wanted to wait to put on her swim cap because Laura, her swim coach, would definitely want to see her new bangs. Someday this amount of self-esteem will be gone, so I'm going to let her enjoy every last second of feeling awesome.

The only downside that I can see is that she now looks more like a 13-year old than a 7-year old. Stupid bangs.

Happy Independence Day.

[Ruby and Dadam are watching a PBS special on Buckingham Palace.]

Ruby: Wow, the Queen's house is beautiful.

Dadam: Mm-hm. Oh, look there she is.

Ruby: Where?

Dadam: That lady there, in the purple dress and hat.

Ruby: What?

Dadam: That's her.

Ruby: That's the Queen?

Dadam: Yeah . . . what's the matter?

Ruby: I thought she would be more fashion.
